While the PR battle was waging between Apple’s iOS, Google’s Android and Blackberry’s OS 6, device manufacturers have been relatively quiet.
While Apple and RIM have chosen to keep their operating systems exclusive to their own devices, Android has captured the fascination of most of the major handset makers, except for Nokia.
Sony Ericsson got on the Android bandwagon early, but instead of just following the herd into either dishing out new devices with updated OS versions or jumping into the tablet space like everybody and their uncle is doing, they’ve taken advantage of their relationship with Sony and its PlayStation division by capitalising on Sony’s experience in gaming.
The Xperia Play is a salvo at taking on Apple’s dominance in the phone-based gaming space as well as introducing new gamers to the PlayStation experience.
